Being Gentle with Yourself: Honouring Your Natural Rhythms

As women, we are beautifully designed to live in harmony with the natural rhythms of our bodies. Even if you no longer have a cycle due to menopause or surgery, or if your cycle feels irregular, your body still follows a natural ebb and flow influenced by your hormones. Learning to honour these inner rhythms — whether they are physical or energetic — is a powerful act of self-care and self-love.

The Follicular Stage: When Energy Rises

The follicular stage is the time after your period when oestrogen begins to rise, and you naturally feel more energised, creative, and outward-facing. This is a time when your body is primed for growth, exploration, and connection.

💖 How to Honour This Stage:

  • Set intentions — this is a beautiful time for setting goals and starting new projects.

  • Engage in movement — gentle cardio, yoga, or strength training can feel invigorating.

  • Journal your ideas — creative thoughts tend to flow more easily during this time.

  • Nourish yourself — focus on light, fresh foods that support energy, like leafy greens, berries, and lean proteins.

The Luteal Stage: When Rest is Necessary

After ovulation, progesterone rises, signalling your body to slow down and prepare for potential implantation. Whether you’re still cycling or not, this is a natural time for turning inward and conserving energy. It’s a time to release the need to push and instead allow yourself to soften.

💖 How to Honour This Stage:

  • Prioritise rest — more sleep and slower days help your body regulate.

  • Listen to your body — if you feel drawn to gentler forms of exercise, lean into that.

  • Comfort yourself — warm, grounding foods like roasted vegetables, soups, and herbal teas are soothing during this phase.

  • Journal with compassion — allow yourself to reflect on any emotions that come up.

Even Without a Cycle — Your Body Still Follows Rhythms

If you’re in menopause or no longer have a cycle, you still have a natural hormonal flow. Your body follows a monthly rhythm influenced by the moon and your internal energy shifts. Tracking your emotional and energetic states — even without bleeding — helps you stay connected to yourself.

🖋️ Get a Beautiful JournalI always encourage my patients to invest in a journal that feels special — something that invites you to sit down and reflect. Tracking how you feel physically, emotionally, and mentally helps you align with your natural flow. It creates a sense of safety and allows you to give yourself permission to rest when needed.

Relaxing into Safety

So much of hormonal balance comes from feeling safe. Your body needs to know that it’s okay to slow down and receive. When you stop pushing and start listening, you create a sense of inner calm that supports your hormones and your overall well-being.

🌸 This week, I invite you to give yourself permission to soften. Honour where you are, knowing that rest and action are both part of the beautiful cycle of being a woman.
