Support your immune system by strengthening it through the winter.
CALM CALM CALM
Looking back in the past, I know the times I have had a serious flu was when I was under a lot of stress. So making sure you are having enough sleep and rest while reducing the stress in your life will help keep your immune system strong.
FRUITS AND VEGETABLE BOOST
Try and have your 10 fruits and vegetables a day. The top ones for me when I really want a boost are Blueberries and Elderberries. Another name for Elderberries is Sambucus Nigra.
You will find loads of tonics, tinctures, juices and supplements with the word Sambucus. Sambucol Elderberry gum berries for example go down very well with children. Ideally take elderberry tincture/juice supplements made from organic Elderberry fruits.
(Word of caution: Always take supplements in moderation ideally not longer than 10 days unless otherwise advised by your health practitioner.)
STAY WELL HYDRATED
The usual cold viruses do not thrive well in an acidic environment. So in the unfortunate situation of the virus having entered the mouth and before it enters the lungs, drinking water may direct it into the stomach where it wouldn't thrive as the stomach is acidic.
OTHER NATURAL SOLUTIONS
Vitamin C may boost immunity. (Word of caution : Too much Vitamin C can give you diarrhoea. Be guided by your body and don't exceed the dosage.)
Oregano essential oil.
You may find Oregano essential oil useful. All you need is a few drops in a glass of water. A 2017 study found that oregano essential oil, especially from the leaves of the oregano plant, has strong antioxidant properties. The researchers noted the traditional use of oregano oil in treating fevers and respiratory symptoms, which are both associated with the flu.
Research conducted in 2011 found that oregano essential oil can inhibit both human and animal viruses in vitro.
Vitamin D For the past month, it's been cloudy / rainy pretty much every day here in the UK and we've been in DESPERATE need of sunlight. Vitamin D can modulate the innate and adaptive immune responses. Deficiency in vitamin D is associated with increased autoimmunity as well as an increased susceptibility to infection.." So keep going with Vitamin D.
